PRU KE-14: COPS READY AND FULLY PREPARED

Sibu, April 12 - The state police contingent is fully prepared for the coming general election, Sarawak Police Commissioner Datuk Amer Awal said yesterday.

He added that about 7,000 police personnel would be on the ground to keep law and order during the campaigning period up till the polling day while 2,000 others would man the stations.

He was speaking when witnessing the handing over of duty as CID chief from ASP Sylvarius Gopog to DSP Benedict Faris Jimoy.

“The police are fully committed to maintain order. Three days before the nomination and the polling day, our force will be at the nomination and polling centres to check on the security.”

He said he always reminded his personnel to be on their toes as public safety and security is their priority and had instructed heads of the police districts to get ready essential items like rain coats and others as the weather was unpredictable.

He also said the police force was keeping up with the pace of development in Sarawak in its drive towards transformation.

“Even folk in the rural areas are well connected to this aspiration, and police personnel, especially the young ones, must embrace it.”

Benedict was born in Bau and is married with five children.

He has served in the police force for about 20 years.

Before being posted to Sibu, he was the CID head in Bau and had also served in Selangor and Kuching.

Sibu police chief ACP Stanley Jonathan Ringgit was also present at the ceremony. – BORNEO POST ONLINE
