SYNDICATE BUSTED FOR BUYING LEGIT TICKETS WITH STOLEN CREDIT CARD

Sepang, 1st Feb. 2017 - Real tickets bought using stolen credit card data for a much cheaper price - that was the modus operandi of a crime syndicate which was recently busted by the police.

According to Sepang OCPD ACP Abdul Aziz Ali, on Jan 19, a Malaysia Airlines Berhad (MAB) safety officer received word that a passenger flying to Dubai from KLIA had bought a ticket using a credit card that did not belong to him.

When he met the suspect to authenticate the credit card used for the purchase, the suspect claimed that the ticket was bought by a friend who goes by the name of Azhar.

Investigations showed that the suspect had two passports - one believed to be fake - and two fake credit cards.

"The suspect showed the police where Azhar stayed in Subang Jaya and we arrested two more suspects, including Azhar," he said.

ACP Abdul Aziz revealed that police seized 37 credit cards, as well as five Malaysian passports and two Pakistani passports at the apartment.

Out of the three suspects arrested, two were Malaysian, while the other, Azhar, hailed from Pakistan.

Police believe that the group had been active for about a year.

"They would use the fake credit cards to buy airplane tickets and sell them to buyers. The prices were about RM1,200 per ticket, depending on the route," he said.

The fake cards were loaded with real credit card data.

ACP Abdul Aziz added that the trio had already been charged on Jan 27, however the police were still on the hunt for one more person - Pakistan national Muhammad Kashif.

Those with information are urged to contact the nearest police station.
