Kota Bharu, 1st December 2020 - Police have not ruled out the possibility that smugglers from the northern states are diverting their activities to Kelantan following increased checks by the authorities recently.

Police Chief of Kelantan, DCP Tuan Shafien Mamat said the move by the police and other border authorities in Perlis and Kedah following two shooting incidents might cause smugglers to change their modus operandi.

However, he said the police and armed forces, who were on duty along the Kelantan-Thailand border, were ready to combat any smuggling activities.

"It cannot be denied that smugglers from the northern states will choose Kelantan to carry out their illegal activities following intensive checks by authorities in the states.

"Police and other agencies have already taken the necessary preparations to face them.

"The state police will only seek additional manpower from Bukit Aman headquarters to be deployed to Kelantan if there is a need to do so," he said.
