KERATAN AKBAR PILIHAN: DRONES BANNED AT MERDEKA PARADES

Kuala Lumpur, 26th August 2024 - The Civil Aviation Authority of Malaysia (CAAM) reminded the public not to fly drones at National Day celebration sites and parades without prior approval from August 26 to 31, including during the practice runs before the event.

In a post on Facebook, CAAM states that this measure is to ensure the safety of Merdeka preparations and prevent any disruptions that could endanger public wellbeing.

The restriction also aims to prevent accidents involving aircraft from the Royal Malaysian Air Force, Royal Malaysia Police, and the Fire and Rescue Department of Malaysia, which will be conducting low-altitude training and air shows across the country during this period.

“CAAM would like to remind that any aviation activity, including drone operations that pose risks or dangers to the public or property, is subject to Section 4 of the Civil Aviation Act 1969 (Act 3); Regulations 98, Regulations 140-144, the Civil Aviation Regulations 2016; and the Civil - Aviation Directives (CADs),” the post reads.

It was previously reported in 2022 that the police had forced a rogue drone to land during a Merdeka parade despite similar warnings from CAAM on the drone flying restriction.
