NINE ROBBERY CASES SOLVED WITH ARREST OF GENG BOTAK MEMBERS

Kota Kinabalu, Sept 26 - Police have solved nine robbery cases with the arrest of nine members of “Geng Botak”.

District police chief Assistant Commissioner M. Chandra said those arrested, aged between 17 and 42, had been active since July.

“Between July and September, there were 21 robbery and extortion cases reported in Kota Kinabalu.

“Of that number, nine cases involved the same syndicate.”

He said under Op Samun, nine raids were conducted between Sept 18 and 21 near here and in Menggatal to track down the group.

The Khas task force seized a car, 13 handphones, three laptops and two golden rings during the raids.

Seven of the nine arrested tested positive for drugs. Some were ex-convicts.

In a separate case, police arrested a 21-year-old Filipino found with drugs inside junk food packaging.

“On Sunday at 7.45pm in Kampung Cenderamata Likas here, police spotted the man behaving suspiciously.

“As the team approached him, he turned aggressive and tried to escape,” Chandra said, adding that police found him holding a plastic bag.

He said the plastic bag was found to contain 50.51g of a crystal-like substance believed to be syabu worth RM5,000.

The man, who tested positive for drug, will be remanded until Saturday. The case is being investigated under Section 39B of the Dangerous Drugs Act 1952. – NEW STRAITS TIMES ONLINE
