George Town, 11th October 2022 - “When duty calls, one has to rise to the occasion and set aside concerns about personal safety.”
These are the words of former Police Volunteer Reserve (PVR) special constable Ang Kim Choo, who marked her 100th birthday on Saturday.
Ang
had been in the PVR from year 1954 to 1960, when the Malayan Emergency was at its worst. She was often sent on reconnaissance missions deep into the jungle to track the movements of the communist terrorists.
In her 20s back then, and with five children to boot, the Kulim native did not hesitate to follow orders.
“Maybe someone was watching over me, but I was lucky to not come face to face with the communists.
“Looking back, I’m proud to have been able to serve and contribute,” Ang said at her centennial celebration held at a restaurant here.
