KERATAN AKHBAR PILIHAN: SLEEPLESS NIGHTS FOR A GOOD CAUSE

Johor Bahru, 12th April 2023 - It has been a fascinating journey for DSP Mail Yussof, a police force veteran who developed the SemakMule application that has had almost 20 million searches.
He recalled spending sleepless nights on it as he wanted to get it right so that people would have a tool to verify online scams.

It all began when a superior asked him to come up with an application which would enable the public to know if there were reports lodged on a particular bank account before they transfer money to it.
“That was how SemakMule was born in 2018. Since then, we have had almost 20 million searches,” said DSP Mail, who has an honours degree in information technology from the Open University of Malaysia.

The app was well-received when it started out.
“Right after the soft launch, the user volume was so huge that our servers crashed,” DSP Mail recalled, adding that with upgraded servers, they were getting about 20,000 to 30,000 searches daily.

DSP Mail has been a police officer for 29 years. During his tune in various departments, he has developed a dozen other applications.
His aim was to come up with user-friendly digital applications to ease the workload of policemen, especially investigating officers (IOs).

He said SemakMule has been his most successful application, with about 20,000 searches daily.
