Kuala Lumpur, 7th February 2025 - Celebrities and influencers who promote 'questionable' products or schemes could be investigated under the Penal Code as accomplices to a crime.
Director of Commercial Crime Investigation Department, CP Dato' Sri Ramli Mohamed Yoosuf warned celebrities and influencers to conduct thorough due diligence before endorsing any product or service.
“There are two ways celebrities can get caught up in this. First, they knowingly endorse something that appears legitimate but turns out to be a scam.
“Secondly, they may be unaware that their photos and personal details are being used by scammers.”
Speaking to the New Straits Times, Dato' Sri Ramli advised celebrities and influencers to thoroughly check a product or service before endorsing it.
“Take everything with a grain of salt. If it sounds too good to be true, it probably is. Think of the potential victims,” he said.
